Migrants arriving thick and fast now, the highlight being the first returning pair of Little Ringed Plover. A handful of Sandmartins were also circling the new workings whilst Chiffchaffs could be heard at several locations around the site.
On the wader front, a pair of Oystercatcher, a single Redshank and Common Snipe were seen, two Little Egret were also picking about in the margins.
Out on the water handfuls of Teal and Wigeon are still about whilst 20 or so Tufted Duck are on the lake over at Cosgrove.
Overhead a pair of Common Buzzard kept close company.
A new sighting, for me anyway, were a small group of eels no longer than six inches in length picking over the gravel in the fast flowing part of the Ouse, whether they were the common Eel or Brook or River Lamprey, I could not be certain, but nice to see all the same.

Tuesday 20th March 2012 - Lunchtime
The first lambs of the spring brightened the day on the land whilst it was very much the same out on the water in pairs of Redshank and Oystercatcher and a triple for Green Sandpiper.
Kingfishers in three different places along the Ouse was a big bonus and a welcome sight after the last couple of winters.

Was down at MF around 4.30 this afternoon myself hoping I might catch the wheatear you located but I had no luck either. I did locate two separate chiff chaff though - one in the trees along the top track behind the depot with all the blue pallets and another in the bushes along back brook at the bottom of the same field. These are the first I've heard there this year.

Monday 19th March 2012 - Morning
The highlight a single Northern Wheatear out on the new workings perhaps signal things are starting to stir down south.
Waders the star of the show otherwise in three Green Sandpiper, and two each of Redshank and Oystercatcher.
Along the river over twenty Mute Swans in a flock feed on the farmers winter wheat whilst the first Kingfisher in a while was darting about.

Thursday 15th March 2012 - Afternoon.
First visit for a week or so and it is noticable that around half a dozen pair of Lapwing are getting very territorial, seeing off allcomers as they mark out their patch.
A new arrival in a single Common Redshank. A pair of Green Sandpipers also on site whilst a lone Little Egret was feeding in the inlet.
Still a smattering of winter thrushes and small flocks of both Linnet and Goldfinch darting about.
A Red Kite over is still a notable tick in this part of the county.

Friday 2nd March 2012 - Afternoon
A sign of oncoming spring with a return of a pair of Oystercatchers, debatable whether they bred last year on site but fingers crossed. As for other waders just a lone Green Sandpiper seen. Two Little Egret also put in an appearance.
A handful of both Widgeon and Common Teal remain out on the water while Goosander numbers are down to a lone pair.
Away from the water still a good mix of winter thrushes about in Redwing and Fieldfare, with good numbers of the latter picking about on the north shore scrub.
